El laboratorio de estructuras delgadas tiene como fin estudiar el comportamiento mecánico de estructuras bidimensionales como películas delgadas y recubrimientos que se dan en diferentes contextos de ciencia de materiales e ingeniería en general, biología, y medicina. Aunque nuestro énfasis es en el estudio de aspectos de ciencia fundamental, la presencia de estructuras delgadas en la naturaleza y en el diseño ingenieril hace que este laboratorio participe de diversos ámbitos de estudio aplicado.
